For Ashton Cobb, dreams of making it into the National Football League are not far from reality. He is currently a free agent in the league; and shows the skills and experience necessary to have a strong presence on the professional gridiron. As a safety, he has been pivotal in providing strong defense in the backfield for the University of Kentucky as well as the Boston Brawlers FXFL team.
The NFL was first founded in 1920; and it was first recognized as the American Professional Football Association before changing its name in 1923. A sport that was once unique to the United States, American football is now played in several different countries; however the NFL remains to be not only the most-watched professional sports league in the United States, but also has the highest average game attendance of any professional sport in the world.
With the increasing popularity of football throughout the early 1900’s, many prospective franchises were denied entry into the American Professional Football Association, which led to the creation of the American Football League in 1959.
From the AFL came teams such as the Boston Patriots, Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Chargers who helped push the popularity of this competing league. In 1970, the AFL merged with the APFA to create the NFL. What followed the merger was the creation of the Super Bowl, one of the biggest sporting events in the world that determines who will earn the national championship title for that season.
